At Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation®, we have spent the last 60 years engineering and manufacturing germicidal ultraviolet equipment to prevent disease caused by water, air, and surfaces. Our UV-C lamps make this disinfection possible, producing ultraviolet wavelengths that are lethal to harmful microorganisms. Learn more about our history below.
1963 — Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® is Established
Atlantic Ultraviolet is established as a New York Corporation on November 22, 1963 — manufacturing germicidal ultraviolet equipment to disinfect air and surfaces. Owners Hilary Boehme and Thomas Dituro operate the business out of Long Island City.
1970 — Our Line of UV-C Lamps
The company begins production of its own line of STER-L-RAY ® Germicidal UV Lamps, in competition with Westinghouse and General Electric, who are primary producers at the time.
Today, Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation’s huge stocking inventory contains equivalent replacement lamps for over 250 equipment brands and 5,000 models. Lamps are produced in Amalgam, Instant Start, Cold Cathode and Preheat types, with either Ozone-Producing or Low Ozone-Producing capabilities, and in standard and high output.
1972 — Our First Water Purifier Line
Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® releases SANITRON® UV Water Purifiers, a unique and rapid method of water disinfection without the use of heat or chemicals. This trademark name becomes the first in a long line of UV-C water purifier models.
In 2021, a customer sent one of our original SANITRON® models back to the factory for maintenance — a testament to the product’s longevity. Read about the longevity of SANITRON® and other products.
1975 — Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® Moves to Bay Shore
Atlantic Ultraviolet’s corporate offices and manufacturing facilities move to a new location in Bay Shore, NY. The new 5,000 square foot facility is constructed and soon expands to 8,000 square feet in 1980.
1988 — Atlantic Ultraviolet Exhibits at Trade Shows
Atlantic Ultraviolet begins exhibiting at trade shows. Here is our SANITRON® on display at EWQA held in Saratoga Springs, NY.
The company currently exhibits at the following trade shows: WEFTEC, FIME, and MJBizCon.
1990 — Large-Scale Water Disinfection
MEGATRON® Germicidal UV Water Disinfection System makes its debut, particularly suited to large-scale disinfection of industrial and municipal water and wastewater applications.

1992 — A New Purifier in Small Sizes
The MINIPURE® UV-C Water Purifier line is released for residential use, being well-suited for point-of-use and under-the-sink installation.

1994 — A New Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® Headquarters
Another move is necessary to house the ever-growing Atlantic Ultraviolet corporate offices, manufacturing facilities and expanding inventory. This 25,000 square foot custom building in Hauppauge, NY is quickly expanded to 37,500 square feet in 1997.

1996 — Portable Air and Surface Disinfection
Designed for direct disinfection of air and exposed surfaces, the first Sanidyne® UV-C Portable Area Sanitizer model is released.

1998 — A New Residential UV Water Purifier
Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® releases Bio-Logic® Germicidal UV Water Purifiers for economical, compact, and versatile residential water disinfection.

2001 — A Web Presence Acquired
Atlantic Ultraviolet realizes the value of a strong website presence and acquires the domain name Ultraviolet.com after a hard-fought bidding war lasting 10 days.
Ultraviolet.com is now the address of our blog (that you are reading now), where visitors can learn more about germicidal ultraviolet technology.
2010 — Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® Launches Ecommerce Site
Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation’s Ecommerce site BuyUltraviolet.com goes live, enabling customers to conveniently purchase products 24/7.
2018 — Atlantic Ultraviolet Receives NSF® Certification
SANITRON® Models S37C, S50C, and S2400C receive certification for NSF®/ANSI 61 and 372.

Atlantic Ultraviolet remains in operation as an essential business during the COVID-19 Pandemic. In order to meet record-setting demand for UV-C Air and Surface Disinfection models, additional staff are trained in product assembly and packing.
2023 — A New Era of Brand Identity
