UV Disinfection Provides Healthy Air in Clinics, Shelters, and Jails

Shelters and Jails with air treated by UV disinfection

Airborne Illness Can Spread Rapidly

Your human services location has a responsibility to create a healthy environment for employees, clients, and inmates. You may already have many disinfection procedures in place. Yet each year colds, flu, and respiratory infections rapidly spread. Many of your clients or residents face existing health and disability challenges. Airborne illnesses can spread and infect them — as well as employees and volunteers — in a matter of hours. UV disinfection for clinics, shelters, and jails lessens the risk of infections with a fast, low-maintenance, automatic air sanitization system.

UV Disinfection: Safe, Rapid, Chemical-Free for Your Human Service Facility

Whether your facility serves a transient population or a static one, durability and safe operation is as important as the healthy air provided. As a manufacturer of ultraviolet sanitization systems since 1963, we know what makes them easy to install, use, and maintain. Our SANITAIRE® product line has been made in the USA since 1991.

Sanitaire UV disinfection drawing contaminated air in and putting clean air out

Key SANITIARE® features make models safe for use in any application, with no risk of over-exposure:

  • UV Lamps are housed in a completely enclosed, reflective stainless steel exposure chamber, so disinfection can take place in occupied areas such as homeless shelters, methadone clinics, jails, detention centers, and correctional facilities.
  • Louvered panel keeps UV rays inside the chamber while air flows out into the room.
  • Standard interlock safety switch disconnects power to the unit when the access panel is unhinged, to ensure the lamp will not emit UV rays when opened for maintenance, or if maliciously opened in a high-risk environment.

UV Disinfection Neutralizes Drug-Resistant Infectious Microbes in Shelters and Jails

The UV-C lamps inside our SANITAIRE® models destroy the DNA structure of infectious airborne microbes — even those that are drug-resistant, including Influenza, Staphylococcus (MRSA), Streptococcus (strep), Coxsackie, Tuberculosis (TB), and SARS-CoV-2 (which causes COVID-19). Lamps only require change about once a year.

Germicidal UV Lamp Rays Destroy The DNA Structure Of Airborne Infectious Microbes

Other benefits of SANITAIRE® models are as follows:

  • Economical as it operates continuously with little oversight.
  • No special training is required for maintenance or installation, saving resources.
  • No chemicals are involved, meaning no dosage issues or risk of mishandling.
  • Surelite™ electronic ballasts provide high lamp output; are lightweight, efficient, and operate cool for long life.
  • Most UV disinfection units come equipped with a 3-prong plug that can be plugged right into a 120v AC, 60 Hz, single-phase standard outlet (units also available for 230v AC, 50/60 Hz).

Two Optional Sanitaire® Features Give Added Peace of Mind

2 Optional Features for UV disinfection of shelters and jails

The integral key lock switch will ensure tamper-proof operation in the on or off position. The ArmorLite™ Safety Shield is an optional protective coating applied to STER-L-RAY® germicidal lamps. It eliminates dangers associated with broken lamps. These features provide your UV disinfection model with added safety features, which may be needed in potentially volatile environments like shelters and jails.
