Pool water can potentially expose swimmers to billions of infectious microorganisms. You probably already use chlorine, the most common water disinfection treatment. Unfortunately, it does not kill all unwanted water bacteria and has its own unhealthy side effects. Supplement your chemical treatment with UV water disinfection to reduce chlorine needs and avoid waterborne illness outbreaks. The MEGATRON® Ultraviolet Water Disinfection System is the most feature-packed in our lineup. Modular design makes it compatible with nearly any aquatic center, spa, water park, etc.
According to the CDC, 2003 – 2012 saw nearly double the number of illness outbreaks associated with aquatic centers than what was reported from 1993 – 2002. Their Model Aquatic Health Code (MAHC) recommends adding a supplemental water treatment, such as ultraviolet disinfection, to kill chlorine-resistant microbes. The MEGATRON® is lethal to virtually all microorganisms, including those not susceptible to chlorine such as Cryptosporidium. Cryptosporidium is a microscopic parasite that is able to live outside the body for long periods of time. This parasite causes the diarrheal disease known as Cryptosporidiosis, or in other words, Crypto. Crypto causes several uncomfortable side effects such as diarrhea, stomach pains, nausea, dehydration, fever, and weight-loss. Introducing an ultraviolet disinfection system can also drastically reduce your chlorine needs as UV radiation controls bacteria, algae, and slime formation.
Reduce Chlorine Needs for a Healthier Aquatic Environment
The distinct smell you recognize when you approach the pool is not chlorine, but chloramines. Chloramines are a chemical reaction that happens when ammonia from skin cells, sweat, and bodily fluids mix with the chlorine in the water. For some people, it causes irritation of the respiratory tract, skin, and eyes. Chloramines are also the cause of corrosion in your aquatic area, wreaking havoc on your pool’s components such as filters and pumps. Reduce chlorine needs by switching to a UV treatment, which is a chemical-free method of disinfection.
Virtually all microorganisms are susceptible to ultraviolet disinfection provided by low-pressure lamps. Inside the disinfection chamber, microbes are exposed to intense shortwave germicidal UV radiation at a lethal level.
Continuous Disinfection
The MEGATRON® provides automatic and continuous disinfection without special attention. Standard features such as the manual or optional automatic wiper facilitate regular cleaning of the quartz sleeve without disassembly or shutdown. Your pool continues to receive disinfection. The NEMA style electrical enclosure and disinfection chamber of the MEGATRON® are constructed of type 316 stainless steel chambers and type 304 stainless steel enclosures and are passivated and electropolished. This system has been designed to resist corrosion and for ultimate durability in aquatic applications.
The MEGATRON® is available in 4 models. STER-L-RAY ® lamps with instant start technology require little energy to operate and have approximately 10,000 hours of continuous use. UV purification is economical. The benefits of supplemental UV water treatment can be seen in less chemical purchase and use and an increase in the overall health and longevity of your aquatic center.
Proudly made in the USA from US and imported parts, the UV water treatment systems from Atlantic Ultraviolet Corporation® are constructed of the highest quality materials and use germicidal ultraviolet lamps to purify water. Shop the MEGATRON® by visiting BuyUltraviolet.com.
